In a City
On a silent warm summer’s night in a city filled with lights and dreams and a mountain, watching silently how the world is turning in the silence of the night.
And with the silence of the city comes multiple things,
Love as a mother puts her children to bed with a kiss only to retrieve to loneliness as she sit and bows her head looking at a city and hopes that it is filled with dreams instead.
Adrenaline as you hear the sirens of police cars chasing through the night hoping to catch the criminal that just went out of sight.
Hate as you hear the screams far away of someone taking their beating for the day.
Fear as there are a following of footsteps of unknown footsteps that follow you through the night.
Numb as the heroine flows through the needle into the vein of a 16-year-old mixing with the blood only to block out the sounds of her drunken father beating her brother to death.
Emptiness as someone saw their reason for living being taken by a bullet in the night.
Sadness as someone has just given up on life.
Loneliness as someone is lying waiting for someone to come home.
And somewhere in this city there is hope as a new-born baby cries in the night.
Somewhere in this city there is a sense of belonging as someone puts their arms around the one they love.
Somewhere in this city there is purpose as someone gives food to the needy.
Somewhere in this city there is joy as two lovers got engaged in the night.
Somewhere in this city there is a sense of belonging as a son returns home.
Somewhere in this city there is still someone wanting to be whole…
